The Project
St. Luke’s engaged our team to assess and improve its Emergency Department’s operational efficiency, as an existing “Fast-Track” zone was experiencing excessive wait times. Working collaboratively with user groups, Lavallee Brensinger’s designers and Optimal-Use planners assessed volumes, by both acuity and workflow, to explore multiple operational models.
A new 18 bed Rapid Assessment Zone (RAZ) was created, tested, and determined to provide the best solution. The resulting design increases overall thru-put, and drastically reduces patient wait times throughout the day. Construction phasing was strategically planned to enable “renovation-in-place” during ongoing operations.
