Concord Hospital
Day Surgery – Process Simulation Analysis

Healthcare:
Ambulatory | Medical Office Building

The renovation and strategic additions to Concord Hospital’s Day Surgery maximized the department area and integrated non-clinical spaces. This allowed the department area to grow by more than 50 percent.

In order to maximize the effective program, Lavallee Brensinger Architects applied process simulation analysis to investigate patient, staff, and material flow. This resulted in a change of practice from separate prep and recovery spaces, to multi-function private rooms.

The resulting design created a suite of four, 600 square foot ORs which are arrayed around a central core. All supplies and services to the ORs are serviced by this core, significantly reducing travel distances and improving utilization of expensive resources. The project also includes two new ORs and an expanded PACU for the main surgical department.
