Cambridge Health Alliance embarked on an ambitious plan to renovate 3 floors of an existing hospital to provide five psychiatric in-patient units for children and adolescents. This treatment program is key to the Commonwealth’s initiative to increase options for some of the State’s most vulnerable and underserved patients focusing on Neuropsychiatric and General Psych Services. This hospital provides a therapeutic environment appropriate for these planned treatment programs that supports the protection of patient privacy, dignity, and health of patients, while providing a safe and secure atmosphere for staff and visitors.

The 60,895 sf renovation over 3-floors includes a blend of private and semi-private rooms, strategically placed nurses’ stations, access to the outdoors, and areas for noisy and quiet activities. Playful Design themes that represent the sea and nature are wrapped throughout the unit to create a soothing and calming environment.
