The Project
Like many Behavioral Health providers, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center found itself faced with the challenges and changes in: treatment focus, cultural expectations, deinstitutionalization, and financial reimbursements. Wanting to continue their compassionate patient centered care, St. Mary’s hired Lavallee Brensinger Architects to design a new behavioral health unit that would support their delivery of Evidence Based Medicine.
With the overall goal of providing a welcoming, therapeutic environment for patients, family members, and staff, the unit was renovated and reconfigured, resulting in 11 single rooms and 1 double room. Professional staff were also provided increased privacy, allowing them the much needed space for collaboration and respite.
The finished space introduced more light into the core of the unit while also increasing visibility into activity spaces. The thoughtful use of color, and careful selection of texture resulted in a familiar and natural surrounding feel for patients.
