The Project

Originally designed and built in 1954, this ~48,800 sf building is being fully renovated and re-purposed to house State of Maine Labs including several BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs,  lab support spaces, and work spaces for lab staff. The labs include: blood, urine, and miscellaneous fluids, as well as necroscopy, tissue, and testing of suspected dangerous materials such as a Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) for the State Police and State of Maine Division of Disease Control.

As a secured facility, the building is designed with multiple levels of access control including secure evidence intake, limited public access, and multiple security access level protocols.
