The Project

As part of our continuing relationship with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), Lavallee Brensinger was approached to renovate the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, known as CHaD. What was originally a 24-bed pediatric acute care unit with a centralized nurse station, has now been renovated into a multi-acuity, 21 bed unit including 7 acute care beds, 7 IMCU beds, and 4 PICU beds.

Starting at the front door, the entry has been relocated and renovated to provide a first impression befitting of New Hampshire’s largest children’s hospital. To allow staff to be closer to their patients and maintain collaboration, nursing stations have been decentralized. The original central nurse station has been replaced by a supply core, a med room, and a lively new playroom that serves as the unit’s centerpiece and activity hub. This complex project was managed, coordinated, and built by DHMC’s own forces.
