The Project
A modern, new 40-bed unit for one of New England’s most active emergency departments focuses on ease of access, comfort, and security. In order to test capacity and flow, the design team took actual data from a peak day in the emergency department and modeled the utilization of treatment areas by patient acuity. This provided powerful insight into staffing patterns and patient needs. As a result, the capacity of the new emergency department can comfortably flex as needed.
