Linden Lodge

Healthcare:
Behavioral Health

Working closely with Brattleboro Retreat’s administration, multi-disciplinary team, patient advocates, and Vermont’s Department of Mental Health; Lavallee Brensinger developed several options for a 12,000 SF 12-bed Level 1 Behavioral Health Unit. Located on the existing campus, creative solutions were needed to incorporate evidence-based design and respect both a limited time frame and tight budget. Critical to the project’s success was a solid connection to the outdoors.

Historic Linden Lodge–built in the early 1900–included large windows, high ceilings, a private outdoor area, and enough space to provide the programming needed to focus on recovery and education. The design for the selected option focused on the wellness and safety of patients, staff, and visitors. Spaces featured abundant of natural light and provided a feeling of openness. Design features allowed for patient privacy, engagement, education, and individual choice.
